Limited damage, no injuries in Holland warehouse fire

No one got hurt after a fire broke out at a Holland warehouse early Sunday, according to Holland Department of Public Safety. Firefighters were called to the building on Waverly Road near East 40th Street for a fire alarm at 3:24 a.m. When they arrived, crews found heavy smoke and a fire burning in palletized materials in the building, which partly houses ATC Drivetrain, public safety officers said. However, due to the building’s automatic fire protection system, damage was limited. Once the fire was put out, firefighters removed crates containing lithium ion battery packs from the building, allowing them to continue to burn in a controlled manner. The fire did involve a crate and packaging material that contained a lithium ion battery pack for a car, according to the department. Several other crates were also damaged in the fire, but did not ignite.
