PHOTOS: Firefighters from across Mason and Manistee counties put their skills to the test Saturday. Fire crews gathered at a property on Zip Road in Mason County’s Grant Township for a large-scale live-burn training exercise.
A donated home was used to simulate real fire conditions, allowing firefighters to practice everything from suppression, to search and rescue, in a realistic setting. The homeowners built a new house on the property and needed to demolish the old house and found a win-win situation.
The training is invaluable to firefighters, according to William Hagerty with the Ludington Fire Department. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office also conducted drone training during the exercise.
