Fire crews declare total loss in Chippewa County blaze, no injuries reported

PHOTOS: A home in Chippewa County was said by fire crews to be declared a ‘total loss’ after the Dafter Township Fire Department responded to a fully involved residential structure fire near Forest Side Road and 11 Mile Road. On April 26, 2025, at approximately 1:12 p.m., Dafter Engine-1, Tanker, and Brush units, along with nine firefighters, were dispatched to the scene. Mutual aid assistance was provided by Bay Mills Township Fire Rescue and Superior Township Fire Department, while Kinross EMS responded to assist with medical evaluation and scene support.

Fire crews successfully contained the blaze to the home, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures. Two residents were evaluated on scene by Kinross EMS, and no injuries to firefighters were reported. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit also responded to assist the displaced family. All units cleared the scene at approximately 4:30 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Dafter Township Fire Department expressed gratitude to all mutual aid partners for their quick response and coordinated efforts.
