Fire chief details challenges crews faced after Bath Township plane crash

VIDEO: Bath Township officials are revealing new details about the deadly plane crash last Thursday evening. Authorities on Sunday released the presumptive identities of the three people who were killed when the small jet aircraft crashed near the intersection of Clark Road and Peacock Road.

During a Sunday press conference, Bath Twp. Fire Chief Mark Koonter talked about how the location of the crash presented challenges for first responders.

โ€œThe biggest challenge was the location of the crash site itself. It was a very wooded, secluded area,โ€ said Koonter. We actually had to use saws and manpower to blaze a trail all the way back to even access the site itself.โ€

He says a report has been filed with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) regarding potential environmental concerns. EGLE has been at the crash site and have a plan for mitigating any cleanup.

Township Supervisor Ryan Fewins-Bliss says he has been in contact with the victimsโ€™ families. He says their focus is recovery for the township community and first responders.
