Fire causes heavy damage to abandoned church on Flint’s east side

VIDEO: An abandoned church on Flint’s east side caught fire Monday night, causing heavy damage. The Flint Fire Department received a call after 8 p.m. reporting smoke and flames coming from the church in the 3900 block of North Term Street a short distance south of Richfield Road.

Fire crews found a significant fire consuming the building when they arrived. Firefighters successfully extinguished the flames and they did not find anyone inside during searches of the building. No injuries were reported from the fire. The Flint Property Portal says the building formerly housed The Open Door Temple Church of God In Christ, but now is owned by the Genesee County Land Bank. The Flint Fire Department will continue investigating what sparked the fire.
