Fifty years of providing emergency services to the tri-county area is something to celebrate. The Fenton Township Fire Department is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a free open house on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 1 to 5 p.m. at station two at 5120 Owen Road.
The community is invited to attend the 50th Anniversary Open House and enjoy fire truck and equipment displays, meeting with local firefighters, fire safety demonstrations, a firefighter obstacle course for kids, vehicle extraction demonstration, refreshments and hot dogs and more. The department will give out smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors and sell challenge coins.
The Fenton Township Fire Department was established on Oct. 22, 1975.
โA lot has changed in 50 years. All the way from vehicles to the way we fight fires to the way buildings are built. Thereโs been numerous changes in 50 years, and Iโve been here since โ97 and thereโs been a lot of changes since โ97 as well,โ said Ryan Volz, Fenton Township fire chief.
Volz joined the department on Aug. 30, 1997 and is the second full-time chief at the department. Johnie Moulton, the first fire chief, served until 2011 until his death. Volz became chief on Dec. 12, 2011.
