VIDEO/PHOTOS: A South Haven convenience store owner is grateful her business escaped significant damage from a fire over the weekend. North Side Memories, a convenience store located on Dyckman Avenue, has been open for four decades. Itโs not far from the popular North Beach. In January, the convenience store closed for the winter months for some renovations. Friday was their reopening. โWe got new flooring, paint, new shelving,โ said store owner Jamie Cowell. โWeโre super excited this weekend to reopen, but we had a little snag.โ Around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, just as employees were going to close for the night, smoke started coming from the storage room. Cowell believes an old freezer had started a fire. She said she was filled with panic and dread as she got the call about the fire. Firefighters quickly arrived to find the business filled with smoke.
