VIDEO: Like many volunteer fire departments in the Copper Country, the Otter Lake Fire Department has been working to find new equipment. โEverything we have is fairly dated,โ Otter Lake Fire Chief Anders Kallungi said. โWeโve been working pretty hard trying to update.โ
Kallungi says his department handles between 10 and 15 fire calls and 30 to 40 EMS calls a year. Within the next few weeks, the department will be adding a new vehicle. โWeโve been shopping to replace an old engine that we have, and we found one out of Massachusetts that fits our needs,โ Kallungi continued.
To find items they need for the truck, Kallungi and other department members traveled to a used fire equipment event in Twin Lakes Friday. Hosted by the Twin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department, a lower Michigan non-profit donated more than $1 million worth of gear for all members of the Copper Country Volunteer Fire Fighters Association to choose from, all for free.
