Comstock Twp FD Pays Tribute to Fallen Fire Chief on Eighth Anniversary of His Death

VIDEO: It has been eight years since Comstock Township Fire Chief Ed Switalski was killed in the line of duty. For the first time, the Comstock Township Department of Fire and Rescue released a hidden tribute story about Switalski.

Switalski died in the line of duty in June of 2017, after he was hit by a truck while responding to a call on the highway. In December 2024, an out-of-control truck slid into a scene that Comstock Fire and Rescue was responding to, injuring two members and damaging three engines. That crash was caught on dash camera. In a Facebook post, the department said that one of the damaged engines โ€œwas more than just a piece of equipmentโ€”it was a symbol of legacy.โ€ It adds the engine had been part of a purchasing process led by the late Switalski and was ready for its first inspection when he died.
