PHOTOS: The City of Ann Arbor has announced that its newest fire station will be named after the city’s first female firefighter. The Ann Arbor Fire Department is not just rebuilding Fire Station 4 on South Huron Parkway to comply with 21st-century carbon neutrality standards but is also planning to rename the station. City Administrator Milton Dohoney Jr. says the city aims to honor Mindy Kerr, who became Ann Arbor’s first female firefighter in 1980 and dedicated 25 years to serving the community. Dohoney says that, once completed next year, the fire station will be the first in the city to have gender-inclusive facilities to accommodate not only men but also the women who actively serve the local community.
