After two fires in one day, Michigamme-Spurr firefighters stress importance of burn permits, fire danger

After responding to two calls on Sunday, Oct. 12, the Michigamme-Spurr Fire Department (MSFD) is warning Yoopers to check the fire danger before burning.

“The wind and dry weather combined with all of the falling leaves can create an increased fire danger,” wrote MSFD in an online post. “If you are burning , have a water source and way to extinguish the fire. When you are done burning please make sure that the fire is doused.”

Firefighters recommend citizens check the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Burn Permits Management System to know if they can legally and safely burn in their county.
