68-Year-Old Man Critically Injured in West Ann Arbor Apartment Fire

A 68-year-old man was rescued from a burning apartment Thursday morning after a fire broke out at a west-side Ann Arbor apartment complex, prompting a rapid response from city firefighters. According to the Ann Arbor Fire Department, crews were dispatched at 11:53 a.m. Thursday to a reported water flow fire alarm at 727 North Maple Road, part of the West Arbor Apartments complex.

Engine 1-3 arrived to find an active apartment fire already being held in check by the buildingโ€™s sprinkler system. Firefighters quickly extinguished the remaining flames, preventing the fire from spreading beyond a single unit.

Officials said the sprinkler system played a key role in limiting damage and reducing the overall danger to other residents. Before firefighters arrived, a bystander visiting a nearby apartment entered the unit and rescued the occupant, a 68-year-old man.
