700 gallons of cooking oil spilled near potato chip factory in Detroit after crash, officials say

PHOTOS: Gallons of cooking oil spilled onto the ground after a crash near the Better Made factory in Detroit on Tuesday morning. The Detroit Fire Department said the tanker truck was making a delivery to the potato chip factory at 10148 Gratiot Avenue when the crash happened. No one was injured.

Seven hundred gallons of cooking oil spilled onto the ground, but none of it went into the sewer, according to the fire department. Detroit fire officials previously reported that 300 gallons of cooking oil had spilled, but updated that number to 700 Tuesday afternoon. The trucking company is handling the cleanup, with the Fire Marshal Division standing by to monitor. The oil thatโ€™s left on the tanker will be offloaded onto another tanker later this afternoon, officials said.
