Two 12-year-old boys are now in full recovery after getting stuck in mud similar to quicksand Saturday evening in Dalton, Mass. First responders from Dalton Fire and Police Departments responded, both saying they have never received a call like this. โWe were dispatched about 7:40 Saturday night for a couple of boys that were stuck in the mud,โ said Chris Cachat, acting chief of the Dalton Fire Department.
However, it wasnโt just regular mud. Cachat said the mud was a silt, clay-like material that was heavily saturated with water, and therefore acting as a suction โ very similar to quicksand. The incident happened on a private property behind High Street in Dalton, where Cachat said two boys began sinking in the mud. โI would say just above their knees, just below their waist, and the hypothermia was setting in and they were scared,โ said Cachat.
