Man, 77, rescued from third floor fire in Waltham; Dozen residents displaced

VIDEO: A resident was rescued and about a dozen others were displaced by a four-alarm fire in Waltham, Massachusetts, on Tuesday. The fire broke out at 78 High St. just after noon, according to Waltham fire. Two Waltham police officers were flagged down and learned a 77-year-old resident was trapped on the third floor of the building. The fire and smoke pushed them back as they tried to get to the man, but fire crews were able to reach him with a ladder. He was brought to Newton Wellesley Hospital. The officers were able to rescue three other residents on lower floors. Approximately 10 to 15 residents were displaced, and the Red Cross is now assisting them. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Waltham fire and police, along with assistance from the state fire marshal’s office.
