Firefighters rescue swan caught in fishing line in Attleboro

PHOTOS: Firefighters from the Attleboro Fire Department rescued a swan tangled in fishing line at Cranberry Pond on Wednesday morning. The Attleboro Fire Department reports that the swan was discovered approximately 100 feet from shore, with its wings and body entangled in fishing line. Firefighters put on water rescue suits and waded into the pond to free the bird.

โ€œThis was a good opportunity for our members to take the training they received and apply it in the real world in a less time-sensitive situation,โ€ said District Chief Mike Maitland. โ€œWhen the day comes that our firefighters need to conduct a water rescue involving a person, they will be better prepared.โ€ Animal Control was also sent to assist in the rescue operation. The swan initially resisted efforts to help, but firefighters were able to free it, allowing it to swim away quickly.
