VIDEO: A two-alarm fire in a residential backyard drew first responders from across Hampshire County on Sunday. โWe were able to hold it a little to the second floor, but it collapsed in on itself,โ said Granby Deputy Fire Chief Tyler Yvon. Emergency crews in Granby tackled the fire on Morgan Street and, while the call started as just an accessory on fire, responders quickly realized they were dealing with a major incident. โUpon our arrival, we had about 50 percent of it involved, so we struck a second alarm, brought in Hadley, Amherst, Belchertown, Westover,โ Yvon added. The homeownerโs barn became engulfed in flames and the aftermath required a multitude of firefighters and fire hoses to smother the embers. Yvon explained how the dry weather is believed to have played a role. โI would say the weather kinda aided in the brush fire that started in the rear of it, so we had to kinda man that as well, took extra resources,โ Yvon explained. However, thankfully, the propertyโs location lightened the load a bit, so, while the barn was destroyed, there were no injuries or displacements as a result. โThankfully, weโre in a hydranted part of town, so it made our job a little easier,โ Yvon said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
