The Agawam Fire Department has received a $59,333.63 federal grant from the Fiscal Year 2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. VA awards $2 million in grant funds to Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. This grant, which was administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and FEMA, requires a 10% local match of $5,933.37, bringing the total project investment to $65,267.00.
“These upgrades will directly enhance our firefighters’ ability to deliver safe and effective fire suppression operations while improving reliability of our water supply and attack line capabilities,” said Fire Chief Alan Sirois. “We are grateful for FEMA’s support and the Town’s continued commitment to firefighter and community safety.”
The grant will be used to acquire modern NFPA-compliant attack and supply hose lines, nozzles, hydrant valves, and other appliances. This new equipment will replace existing equipment that is almost 25 years old. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is a competitive national program, highlighting the strength of Agawam’s application and the department’s commitment to advancing public safety.
