2 killed in Chelmsford house fire

Two people were killed in a morning fire Saturday in Chelmsford. โ€œThis is a very sad day for our community and especially for the two families who lost loved ones,โ€ Chelmsford Fire Chief Gary Ryan said in a statement. โ€œOn behalf of the Chelmsford Fire Department, I want to extend our heartfelt condolences.โ€

A neighbor reported the fire at 53 Mobile Avenue just after 4:40 a.m. Saturday. A Chelmsford Fire Department engine company was close by on an unrelated call and arrived on scene moments later to find smoke and flames at the front and rear of the building. A ladder company arrived a short time later.

Firefighters immediately made entry to locate occupants and attack the fire. They removed two men, both in their 50s, who were both pronounced dead at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of their deaths.

Firefighters brought the fire under control in about half an hour, with no extension to surrounding properties.
