VIDEO: One person died, and one person was seriously injured after a large fire tore through a multi-family home in Lowell on Friday night. The Lowell Fire Department said the fire started shortly after 9 p.m. Friday on Appleton Street. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the front of the building. One person was seriously injured outside and was taken to the hospital. Other residents escaped safely, but neighbors said it was a frightening scene.
“I heard a collapse sound, and I assumed it was a car crash, so I came running, and that’s when I saw next door there was a man falling out of a window, and he landed on the bins out there, and he got right back up,” neighbor Isis Rivera said. Firefighters said they found one resident of the home unresponsive inside. They said they attempted lifesaving efforts, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters said it is unclear right now how the fire started and the fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
