Firefighters battle four-alarm blaze, evacuate 23 residents in Baltimore

The Baltimore City Fire Department battled a four-alarm fire on Friday, resulting in 23 evacuations in the Remington area.

Fire crews responded to the area of 23rd Street and Hampden Road in Remington around 1:30 p.m.

Chief James Wallace of the Fire Department stated that when the crews arrived on the scene, it quickly escalated to a second alarm fire at 1:32 p.m., followed by a third alarm at approximately 2:00 p.m., and then a fourth alarm at 2:07 p.m.

The fire was located on two separate addresses, 2230 Hamden Ave and 2235 Hamden Ave, because the warehouse that caught fire is about 50 feet wide and 500 feet long.

The fire is believed to have started on the exterior of the building and was wind-driven into the building, officials said.

The warehouse housed two businesses, and Chief Wallace believes the ground-floor business is a woodworking operation, while the second-floor business is believed to be a toy distribution/manufacturing facility.
