A fire at Queen Anne’s High School on Ruthsburg Road in Centreville resulted in an estimated $30,000 in damages but no injuries, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
On September 9, the fire was discovered when the school’s fire alarm system activated, alerting the Fire Alarm Company, which then contacted 911.
Officials say that a school custodian also discovered the fire after the alarm went off. The Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene with 36 firefighters, bringing the fire under control in 32 minutes.
The fire originated in a rear office on the first floor and was caused by an accidental electrical event involving a power surge protector.
A sprinkler system at the school activated and extinguished the fire in the office, officials said. The school was closed for the day for clean-up efforts.
