Baltimore bill would create stricter boundaries around fire scenes

VIDEO: Baltimore City could soon see stricter fire scenes after a bill got the green light out of committee on Tuesday.

The bill would bar any unauthorized people from entering the direct area around a fire. The measure is aimed at protecting families impacted by those trying to solicit restoration services.

It comes nearly one year after the Keswick Road five-alarm fire in Hampden. “Every cinder block, every screw, every board, they’re all symbols of hope and strength. And I can’t wait until this is finished,” said Jeremy Olsen, a fire victim.

Two weeks ago, Olsen began rebuilding his Hampden home in the same spot where he started his family 20 years ago.

In October, it’ll be a year since his century-old rowhome went up in flames โ€” among 10 hit by a fast-moving fire. Olsen’s family made it out alive, but two of his neighbors died.

Olsen said as they were trying to make sense of the devastation, they were immediately approached by people soliciting restoration services.
