Wilton firefighters respond to crash, structure fire within minutes

Firefighters in Wilton were called to back-to-back emergencies Monday afternoon, first to a car crash on Route 133 and then to a structure fire on Birch Street, officials said.

Crews initially responded to a report of a car that had struck a tree with airbag deployment and possible injuries, Wilton Fire and Rescue said in a social media post. Firefighters stabilized the vehicle and cut power before being dispatched to a house fire. Wilton police remained on scene at the crash.

When crews arrived at the Birch Street home, they reported smoke coming from the eaves. Firefighters entered the building and found flames that had started in the kitchen and spread into the walls and attic, according to the post.

Mutual aid departments assisted with fire suppression, water support and overhaul. No injuries requiring transport were reported at either scene, fire officials said.

Agencies that responded included Wilton Police Department, Farmington Fire Department, Jay Fire, East Dixfield Fire, and MaineHealth EMS.
