A fire that broke out in a Sanford mill is under investigation. It happened along Heritage Crossing.
The fire chief says it broke out on the fourth floor. He says it may have started as a warming fire lit by someone sheltering in the mill.
But after arson destroyed a mill in Sanford eight years ago, the chief says his department is vigilant about any fires at a mill in the city.
“It’s taken very seriously,โ Sanford Fire Chief Scott Susi said. โWe started a first alarm response and upgraded to a second alarm response in order to have all the resources we need to fight this.”
At least two juveniles pleaded guilty to arson for the fire in 2017. That mill was eventually torn down.
