A person has died after a house fire in Washington County Sunday night. It happened just before 6 p.m., on Main Street in Meddybemps. Officials say when firefighters arrived, the home was already engulfed in flames.
Weโre told more than a half-dozen fire departments responded, fighting the fire in heavy snow conditions. The State Fire Marshalโs Office says when investigators got there, they found the remains of an adult inside the home.
They say the victim was taken to the Medical Examiner so they can confirm their identity and determine a cause of death. The Fire Marshalโs Office was still on scene Monday working to determine a cause.
