Firefighters battle garage fire in Dexter

Crews in Dexter responded to a garage fire off Charleston Road around 2:30 p.m. Monday. Firefighters said the homeowner was burning debris next to the garage when the two-car structure went up in flames. Dexter Fire received backup from nearby departments to keep the fire from spreading.

Deputy Fire Chief Rick Stocker said no one was hurt. โ€œWe encountered the shed was fully involved, and we had a challenge to get into these narrow driveways, but we were able to get in and make a quick attack on the fire and knock it down,โ€ Stocker said. โ€œSo it is very dry. I encourage people not to burn of any type.โ€ Stocker also reminded residents that despite Fridayโ€™s showers, most of the state remains at high risk of wildfire.
