Fire damages Noble Barbeque building on Forest Avenue in Portland

The Portland Fire Department was called to the scene of an ‘all hands’ fire Wednesday morning at the former home of Noble Barbecue.

Responders were seen going in and out of the former Noble Barbeque location on Forest Avenue shortly before 7 a.m.

Officials at the scene told Maine’s Total Coverage that a smoker in the building caught fire and flames spread to a shed on the property.

“It was noticed by passersby and there were several calls on it. Our crews got here and the shed in the back is fully involved,” said Deputy Fire Chief Shawn Neat. “They were able to keep from getting into the building, the main building, which was kind of a big deal.”

Traffic in the area was temporarily blocked but has returned to normal. The extent of any damage is unclear. There were no reported injuries and firefighters cleared the scene shortly after 7 a.m.

Neat said the property owners were not at the building at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
