A fire that broke out Saturday at the Irving Forest Products sawmill in Dixfield caused “extensive” damage to the facility, according to local fire officials, but no injuries were reported.
The Dixfield Fire Company thanked mutual aid from several nearby communities along with state fire officials and company personnel with their response.
Dixfield fire officials said the damage was extensive but was contained to the northwest side of the sawmill building.
“Mill personnel are assessing damage and already planning repairs,” the agency said in a news release.
Dixfield fire was assisted by fire departments from Rumford, Peru, Mexico, East Dixfield, Jay, Wilton, Canton, Roxbury, and Carthage. They also thanked the Oxford County Regional Communications team, Med-Care Ambulance, and Irving personnel for their assistance.
Dixfield officials said the fire is under investigation with the Maine fire marshal’s office.
