The Shreveport Fire Department was called into action twice Thursday night, responding to separate house fires that kept crews busy into the early morning hours Friday. Both incidents were handled quickly and without injury. The first fire happened shortly after 11 p.m. SFD units were dispatched to the 2000 block of Ford Street. Crews found light smoke coming from the front of the home. The fire was extinguished quickly.
Then about an hour later, SFD received a 911 call reporting a small grass fire in the 1700 block of Highland Avenue. When they arrived, they found a fully involved house fire with flames and smoke pouring from all sides of the structure. Given the intensity of the blaze, a defensive strategy was employed, utilizing Ladder Trucks 7 and 9 to attack the fire from above.
The fire threatened nearby homes, prompting a call for additional resources. In total, 10 SFD units and over 30 firefighters worked to contain the inferno and prevent its spread. Both fires remain under investigation.
