Shreveport Fire Department is set to receive a $28,958 grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation that will go to buy two rescue boats. This week’s Shreveport City Council agenda shows a resolution authorizing the acceptance of a very substantial grant received by the Fire Department. Any donations over $10,000 require approval from the council.
The funding is being used to buy two Whaly 370 boats, two motors and two trailers with accessories that the department will use for water safety and rescue operations. The resolution cannot be adopted before Aug. 26. Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has awarded about $100 million to firefighters. Recent statistics from 2024 show they sent 393 sets of bunker gear, 276 thermal imaging cameras, 537 AEDS, 30 all-terrain vehicles, 85 extrication tools and 29 scholarships.
