A large home on the banks of the Amite River was destroyed by a massive fire. Firefighters were called out to Cove Lane off Highway 16 around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 5. The Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 4 confirmed they responded to the fire. As of 2:20 p.m., the fire was under control, but firefighters remained on scene to work the fire investigation.
According to the fire department, the home was a total loss. Officials said two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion, and one of them was taken to the hospital. No other injuries were reported. Several agencies assisted LPFP District 4 in the fire response, including Ascension Parish Fire Departments Galvez-Lake, St. Amant, and 7th District, Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 5 and District 9, and the Port Vincent Police Department.
