Mansfield, Springhill fire departments improve ratings

Fire departments in two local parishes are celebrating improved fire ratings that in turn will result in savings for insured homeowners. The Property Insurance Association of Louisiana has upgraded the city of Mansfield’s fire rating from Class 4 to Class 3, with Class 1 being the highest on a scale of 10. The city once was rated Class 6.

“This is an advancement that reflects years of dedicated service, strategic planning, and investment in fire protection and infrastructure,” Mansfield Mayor Thomas Jones said in a news release. “This latest upgrade marks a significant leap forward and demonstrates the city’s steady progress in protecting lives and property.” The new rating is effective Sept. 1 and will apply to all qualifying properties within the corporate limits of Mansfield, potentially reducing fire insurance rates for residential and commercial property owners. “Our goal is to achieve Class 1 over the next five years,” said Jones.

Jones singled out Fire Chief Bryan Ross, Public Works Director Tarus Chatman and fire and city staff who worked to make the improved classification possible.

In Webster Parish, Springhill Fire Protection District 11 has jumped from a Class 4 to a Class 2, making it the highest classification the department has ever obtained. “We thank everyone who has a hand in being able to make this happen from our dedicated volunteers all the way to the other entities that also get graded as part of the package that support the fire department functions. Everyone please make sure to reach out to your home insurance coverage agent and make sure you are getting your best insurance rate for your fire coverage,” Fire Chief Michael Morse said in a social media post.
