Lightning strikes twice: Slidell home hit by rare double bolt, firefighters say

A Slidell home took a rare and fiery hit from Mother Nature Friday after being struck by lightning not once, but twice. It sparked a residential fire that had firefighters racing to the scene. St. Tammany Fire Protection District #1 said crews responded to a structure fire on Nickel Loop. Rescue 11 personnel helped to quickly extinguish the flames. Fortunately, everyone inside the home was able to evacuate safely.

“It’s not every day that a house experiences a double dose of nature’s fury, but getting struck by lightning twice? Now that’s a rare event!” the Fire District said in a Facebook post. While no injuries were reported, officials said it’s not often that lightning strikes the same place twice. The Red Cross has been contacted to assist the homeowner.
