VIDEO: First responders in Jeanerette were honored at City Hall last week for using techniques that brought someone back to life. The emergency response involved EMTs from Acadian Ambulance and firefighters from the Jeanerette Fire Department who all played crucial roles in the manโs survival. CPR was being administered by the manโs family members when the first responders arrived, which officials said was vital to the positive outcome.
โWe started our advanced cardiac life support treatment, including medications and multiple rounds of defibrillation,โ said Trent Boudreaux, a paramedic field supervisor with Acadian Ambulance. โThe patient was clinically deceased, but we were able to bring him back.โ
The man was released from the hospital just eight days after the incident. Fire Chief Sherry Landry emphasized the importance of community preparedness and urged residents to get certified in CPR, noting, โIt can change your life, your familyโs life, or someone elseโs. Every second counts.โ
EMTs Caylie Guidry and Stacey LeBlanc, who were also honored, expressed how the experience has impacted them. โIt means a lot knowing that I actually saved someoneโs life,โ said Guidry. Jeanerette Mayor Carol Bourgeois Jr. highlighted the importance of supporting first responders and acknowledged their role in the community, stating, โThese are young people โ they are our future. Weโre proud to promote good news and to support those who serve our community.โ
The recognition event underscored the critical role of first responders and community members in emergency situations, reminding the public that immediate action can save lives.
