A deadly house fire in Algiers claimed the life of one occupant, the New Orleans Fire Department said Monday. A neighbor of the victim identified her to Fox 8 as a woman. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s office has not yet disclosed her identity or age. According to the NOFD, firefighters were called at 4:08 p.m. to a burning single-story, wood-framed duplex at 325 Homer St.
They arrived within three minutes and were told an occupant was still inside the burning structure. The victim was rescued from the house and taken for hospital treatment, but did not survive, the NOFD said. The department said 30 firefighters manning 11 units brought the fire under control by 4:44 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
