VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Baton Rouge Fire Department is investigating after an early morning fire left a home destroyed on Thursday, April 17. The fire reportedly happened around 2:30 a.m. at a house on Hillmont Drive, which is not far from Greenwell Springs Road. According to the fire department, firefighters arrived on the scene to find two vehicles engulfed in flames under the carport. The fire had already spread from the carport to the attic, but two people escaped unharmed. Firefighters attacked the fire from inside the home but were forced out when the roof started collapsing, explained officials. The Central Fire Department helped Baton Rouge firefighters bring the fire under control without injuries, officials confirmed. This is an ongoing investigation. The cause of the fire has not been determined yet.
