Zoneton firefighter honored by Kentucky Brotherhood Riders

VIDEO: A member of the Zoneton Fire Department’s name lives on after being honored by a group of first responders. More than 30 members of the Kentucky Brotherhood Riders stopped at Zoneton Fire Department to honor one of their own, Sgt. John Vickers, who lost his battle with cancer in June 2024.

The Kentucky Brotherhood is known for traveling across the state to honor the legacy of first responders who have fallen in the line of duty. For many, remembering Vickers โ€” a firefighter and a cherished member of his community โ€” was deeply personal. The Zoneton Fire Department has recognized Vickers’ passing as a line-of-duty death, citing the increased cancer risk faced by firefighters due to the hazards of their profession. “Several times I’ve heard the saying, there are two deaths in life: the death of your physical body, and the last time somebody speaks your name,” said Dusten Howton, from the Fern Creek Fire Department.
