Work accident causes ‘significant’ fire at Louisville docking bay

Louisville firefighters extinguished a “signficant structure fire” Tuesday afternoon at a business in the Southland Park neighborhood. At about 1 p.m., the Louisville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the docking bay at 6300 Strawberry Lane, according to an LFD news release.

Crews arrived on scene to find a fully-involved fire. A collapse zone was established to ensure firefighter safety and multiple master streams were deployed to contain the blaze. It took 29 firefighters, four engines, three trucks and two battalion chiefs to bring the fire under control by 1:20 p.m., LFD officials said.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire was accidental, originating from a worker using a hot wire inside the building. No injuries or fatalities were reported and all on-site personnel were accounted for.

LG&E was requested to shut off power to the complex, and no hazardous chemicals were found inside the building. There were no exposures to adjacent structures, and a fire watch was established following extinguishment.
