PHOTOS: A Kentucky fire department had a very busy 10 hours during the holiday weekend. The New Hope Volunteer Fire Department in Nelson County dealt with two large structure fires.
The first one was 11:55 p.m. July 4 when NHFD was dispatched on a report of flames coming from a home in the 100 block of Melody Drive. Crews said they arrived to find the remains of a previously burned structure re-ignited on purpose. The blaze had caught trees on fire and started smaller ground fires in the immediate area. It was brought under control in 30 minutes, while crews remained on scene roughly another hour-and-a-half to clear the scene. That incident remains an active investigation.
Then, at 9:30 a.m. July 5, NHFD was dispatched on the report of a fire in the 100 block of Wild Rose Court with a large volume of fire and a roof collapse. Crews arrived on scene to find a fully involved structure fire.
