Population boom in Winchester calls for more EMS resources

VIDEO: In the past several years, the City of Winchester has seen an increase in population, which means an increased need for emergency services. Now, they’ve updated their staffing model. “If we can save one life, it was all worth it,” City Manager, Bruce Manley says.

Manley tells us when he moved to the city 20 years ago, Winchester looked a lot different than it does today. “Winchester’s really taken off. We’re seeing growth in our school system, we’re seeing growth in our industries for our industrial park, we’re seeing growth in restaurants and shopping here,” Manley says. The fire department is seeing growth too. Since Chris Whiteley became Chief in 2021, he says they went from 56 firefighters to 73 full time personnel. Now, they’ve moved another ladder truck downtown and updated their staffing deployment model, adding more personnel.
