PHOTOS:ย After waiting for more than two years, the Murray Fire Departmentโs new tower ladder truck has been delivered, and city officials said it will enhance public safety and should bring peace of mind to local residents and Murray State University students and their families.
The truck is a 2025 Pierce Ascendant with a 100-foot mid-mount tower ladder. Its unit designation will be Tower 1, essentially replacing the current ladder truck. However, MFD Chief Eric Pologruto said the department will retain the old truck in its fleet so it can be used as a reserve truck if the front-line trucks are temporarily out of service, as well as provide backup at any large-scale fire.
Pologruto said the new truck has the capability of pumping up to 2,000 gallons of water per minute, but perhaps its most important feature is the bucket at the top of the ladder.
