Central Campbell Fire District introduces first K9 helper in district’s history

PHOTOS: The Central Campbell Fire District has introduced Vega, a young chocolate Labrador, as the newest member of its team. Vega is set to become a key asset in search and rescue operations for the county, state, and beyond.

Firefighter and Paramedic Michael Torres, Vega’s handler, has taken full responsibility for her care, training, and expenses. Together, they are undergoing intensive preparation to meet the standards of search and rescue work. Vega will begin formal qualifications at 16 weeks. “This is a historic moment for our district,” said a post for the Central Campbell Fire District. Vega is the first search and rescue canine in the district’s history and the first member connected to Kentucky Task Force One, which is the state’s Urban Search and Rescue Team.
