VIDEO: The new state-of-the-art Bowling Green fire and police training facility is now officially open. City officials say the idea took off following the December 2021 tornadoes.
After four years in the making, the brand-new David Whitson Public Safety Training Center, which can withstand a Category 5 weather event, is open for cadets and recruits. The facility features a weight room, mat room, classrooms, a drill tower and the new Fire Station Five.
โThis plot of land, this space, this investment of 20 plus $1,000,000, the efficiency better be better and itโll be on us to make sure that we use it to the best of our development for our people so that when the time comes, we will be prepared,โ says Bowling Green Fire Chief Justin Brooks.
The David Whitson Public Safety Training Center is named after the fallen police officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty in 2006.
