VIDEO: Two people were taken to the hospital after an incident prompted a hazmat response at a Lexington facility. The Lexington Fire Department says crews were called to the Federal Medical Center on Leestown Road on Monday for a report of unknown trouble.
When firefighters arrived, the call was upgraded to a hazmat response. According to FMC officials, workers in the mailroom identified a suspicious substance when two of them began to feel ill. Those workers were taken to the hospital for observation.
FMC officials tell us the suspicious substance was contained and isolated until the area was deemed safe. The Federal Medical Center is a federal prison for inmates requiring medical or mental health care. There is also an adjacent minimum security satellite camp.
