Woman injured in Emporia fire

A woman was taken to an area hospital after being injured while she tried to put out an early-morning fire on Tuesday in Emporia, according to KVOE Radio. Firefighters were called to the blaze around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday at a duplex located at 2023 Gloria St., on the northwest side of Emporia.

Emporia Fire Department Capt. Greg Davis told KVOE that first-arriving crews found smoldering insulation in the attic of the two-story duplex. The insulation that was damaged in the fire was removed through the bathroom ceiling, KVOE says. The fire was believed to be electrical in nature, starting in the upstairs bathroom.

Davis said a tenant suffered minor burns on her hands and wrists. She was taken by private vehicle to Newman Regional Health for observation and treatment. Additional details werenโ€™t immediately available. Check wibw.com later for more information as it becomes available.
