Wichita firefighter, medic injured while responding to tree accident

PHOTOS: A routine medical call turned dangerous Sunday evening after a tree unexpectedly collapsed on first responders in south Wichita. Around 6 p.m. on June 22, Wichita Fire Departmentโ€™s Squad 11 was dispatched to the 1800 block of S. Madison after a person was injured while cutting a tree. As crews were treating the patient, a large section of the tree, estimated at 150 pounds, fell roughly 25 feet into the area where medics were working.

One firefighter quickly pulled a medic student out of the way, while another shielded the patient from the falling debris. The firefighter, medic, and original patient were all transported to the hospital for evaluation. Their condition has not been released, but the department is asking the community to keep them in their thoughts.
