Two people found dead in Emporia house explosion

Emporia Officials confirmed a house explosion in east Emporia late Wednesday afternoon, June 18. According to the Emporia Fire Dept., the explosion occurred around 4:54 p.m. near E 6th and Weaver St. Around 8:30 p.m. authorities found two bodies within the debris. The investigation says the explosion appears to be accidental but remains under investigation. The names of the deceased will be released once identification can be made. Emporia Fire says units on scene contained the fire to the collapsed structure and remained to extinguish hot spots. The department also confirmed no surrounding structures were involved.
