Police arrested a man connected with two fires in back-to-back days at a First Bank Kansas location in Salina. Forty-three-year-old Matthew Phouthavong faces two counts of arson. The second of two fires reported at the bank in the 1300 block of West Crawford happened late Thursday night. Police said at about 11 p.m., a witness driving by noticed a fire on the side of the building and an SUV leaving the area.
The first fire happened at about 8 a.m. Wednesday. Police reported someone breaking out a window and starting a fire that further damaged the window and carpet. No one got into the bank, police said. During an investigation, bank employees provided police with the name of the suspect, Phouthavong, who reportedly was angry at the bank. Police reported finding Phoutavong at his home and arresting him.
