Multiple crews were called out to a grass fire in Harvey County on Wednesday. Crews responded to the area near North River Park Road between Northwest 12th and 24th streets around 11:40 a.m.
Dispatchers confirmed that the fire started as a controlled burn but was fueled by high winds. About 15 acres were burned. The fire is now contained, but emergency crews are asking people to avoid the area and find an alternate route.
No people or livestock were hurt. No structures were damaged. Several agencies assisted with the fire response, including fire and EMS from Halstead, Burrton, Hesston, Newton, Sedgwick and Walton, as well as mutual aid assets from Moundridge, Reno County and Sedgwick County.
